To put in perspective some of the controversy over statins and diabetes, Harlan Krumholz points to a study published this week that examined the long-term effects of incident diabetes on cardiovascular outcomes. Compared with patients on amlodipine or lisinopril therapy, those on chlorthalidone therapy had a higher incidence of diabetes but also a lower risk of clinical cardiovascular outcomes.
