En coup de sabre (ECdS) is a form of linear morphea occurring on the face, usually unilaterally on the forehead. Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS) refers to idiopathic hemifacial atrophy of the lower face, typically without significant cutaneous involvement. Little is known about these entities, and whether they represent the same disease is unclear.
To describe clinical features, demographic data, and treatment in these patients, Mayo Clinic investigators performed a retrospective review of 54 patients with diagnoses of ECdS morphea or PRS seen during a 20-year period (female:male ratio, 2.2:1; mean age at onset of symptoms, 13.6 years [range, 0.3–75.0 years]).
