Most condyloma acuminata in females are caused by HPV types 6 and 11. During the past year, a new quadrivalent vaccine (Gardasil) has been approved for protection against infection with HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. Investigators conducted a multicenter, phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the vaccine’s effectiveness in preventing HPV-related diseases of the female genital tract.
