Trichodysplasia spinulosa is a facial dermatosis associated with immunosuppression and characterized by follicular-based spiny papules. Merging of the facial lesions can lead to a leonine facial appearance and loss of hair. This condition has been described under various names, including “pilomatrix dysplasia,” “cyclosporine-induced folliculodystrophy,” “virus-associated trichodysplasia spinulosa,” and “viral-associated trichodysplasia (VAT) of immunosuppression.” The authors of this case report describe our evolving understanding of this disease.
