Peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) is a member of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. Drugs that bind to members of this superfamily are generally very potent and have broad ranges of activity. Thiazolidinediones (aka glitazones) are PPARγ ligands that are currently used to help control diabetes and that may also be useful in the treatment of metastatic melanomas.
