Botulinum toxin (BTX) muscle denervation is currently the standard treatment for temporary effacement of glabellar frowning. However, it has to be repeated every 3 to 4 months. A longer-lasting alternative could be very useful. In this prospective study, investigators measured the efficacy of radiofrequency (RF) ablation.
Twenty-nine patients underwent bilateral RF ablation of temporal and angular branches of the facial nerve innervating the corrugator and procerus muscles. First, oral diazepam, intramuscular meperidine, nerve blocks, and local anesthetic were administered.
