The oral antifungal agent voriconazole has had a relatively recent approval. Its use has been associated with phototoxicity in some patients. Transplant patients and other immunosuppressed persons may require chronic use to treat or prevent unusual systemic fungal infections. Rapid onset of multiple squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) has been reported in several patients.
These authors report findings in eight voriconazole recipients, identified in a retrospective review at three tertiary medical centers, who developed multiple SCCs and changes associated with chronic photoaging.
