Ablative fractionated laser resurfacing is a new modality currently used for skin rejuvenation and wrinkle reduction. How well does it work for scars?
In this pilot study, 15 women underwent CO2 fractionated laser treatment of 22 non-acne scars (mostly atrophic scars of the face). Treatments were performed under local anesthesia, 1 to 4 months apart, and the patients were followed for 6 months. Three patients dropped out after one treatment; 12 women with 19 scars underwent all three treatments. Efficacy was rated on a scale of 0 (no improvement) to 4 (75%–100% improvement).
