Etanercept and adalimumab effectively treat psoriasis. How safe are these agents, and how should recipients be monitored for adverse effects?
All 162 consecutive patients (mean age, 50.9; 64% men) who received etanercept or adalimumab for psoriasis (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index score, ≥10) over a 5-year period at a Dutch medical center were enrolled. The patients had not responded to, did not tolerate, or had contraindications to one or more standard treatment regimens. Laboratory tests were performed at baseline, at weeks 6 and 12, and every 3 months thereafter, and adverse events were recorded.
