Several prior studies have suggested that bullous pemphigoid (BP) is associated with several conditions, particularly neuropsychiatric diseases. A recent nested, case-control study from Taiwan has demonstrated that BP is associated strongly (ORs, ≈2.5 to 3.5) with stroke, schizophrenia, dementia, Parkinson disease, epilepsy, and psoriasis.1 The study included 3485 patients with BP and 17,425 matched controls. The authors conclude that these comorbid conditions were generally present before the development of BP.
