Vitiligo affects up to 1% of the population. Segmental vitiligo is characterized by a localized, unilateral area of acquired pigment loss that respects the midline. Generalized vitiligo has a symmetric, bilateral distribution. Recently, cases of mixed vitiligo (both segmental and generalized types) have been described. Investigators from an academic vitiligo center in France conducted an observational, prospective cohort study in 127 patients (71 female; average age at onset, 9 years) with segmental vitiligo.
