Obesity is associated with an increased risk for psoriasis, and weight loss has been associated with decreased need for systemic medications. Bariatric surgery is often effective for weight reduction and reversal of medical complications associated with obesity, including hypertension, insulin resistance, and diabetes mellitus. In individual cases, bariatric surgery has had a positive influence on psoriasis.
Researchers conducted a retrospective review of 5515 patients who had undergone bariatric surgery and identified 12 with psoriasis, 10 of whom were available for analysis.
