Trichodysplasia spinulosa (TS) is a recently described, follicular base disorder seen mainly in immunosuppressed patients. In the first described case in 1999, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed a 38-nm virus. The literature contains descriptions of about 20 cases involving recipients of organ transplants or chemotherapy. Recently, the pertinent virus, a new member of the polyomavirus family, was recognized and named TS-associated polyomavirus (TSPyV). These authors report the use of paraffin-embedded tissue for further identification and study of the virus in two patients.
