Onychocryptosis (ingrown toenail) is a common nail disorder that arises from a combination of factors: genetic predisposition, infection, repeated trauma, ill-fitting shoes, and deep trimming of the nails. It can lead to pain, inflammation, infection, and excessive periungual granulation tissue. Wedge excision of the nail with surgical or chemical matricectomy is traditionally used to treat the condition in adults; however, high recurrence rates and deformity of the nail plate are common. Children also suffer from ingrown toenail, but the literature is sparse.
