Wireless pH monitoring, using a radio transmitter that is attached to the esophageal mucosa, is becoming a popular method of esophageal ambulatory monitoring. Advantages of this technique are that transnasal tubes are not required and that extended recording times (1 to 2 days) are possible. Extended recording time provides additional data and might improve diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In this partially manufacturer-supported database analysis, researchers retrospectively compared 1-day and 2-day recordings in 157 symptomatic patients who had undergone 2 days of wireless ambulatory pH monitoring (BRAVO pH capsule system, Medtronic Inc.); 87 patients had typical reflux symptoms, and 70 patients had atypical symptoms. …
