Only about half of older U.S. adults (age, ≥50) are up-to-date with colorectal cancer screening. To determine whether a mailed educational brochure would improve screening colonoscopy rates, investigators conducted a randomized controlled trial among 781 patients (age, ≥50) who had been referred by primary care physicians for screening colonoscopy. Half of the patients received informational brochures within 10 days of referral; half did not.
