Experimental trials and case-control studies have shown that use of aspirin, other nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors (coxibs) is associated with a lower incidence of colorectal adenomas; aspirin and nonselective NSAIDs also have been associated with a lower incidence of colorectal cancer in case-control studies. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has weighed in with two extensive reviews on the use of these agents for primary prevention of colorectal cancer.
