Many patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) would like to discontinue their medications but are unwilling to undergo surgery. Endoscopic GERD therapy might be the ideal solution, but the safety and durability of these procedures are of concern. Endoscopic full-thickness plication showed early success at 12 months (Gastrointest Endosc 2004; 59:163) and performed better than placebo in a sham-controlled trial (Gastroenterology 2006; 131:704). Now, investigators provide follow-up data for 29 of the 64 patients who participated in the initial study (which was funded by the maker of the plication device).
