The rate at which advanced adenomas progress to colorectal cancer is largely unknown. Previous estimates of progression rates were based primarily on small, observational studies that were conducted before colonoscopy was used widely. Now, researchers in Germany have combined information from two national databases to elucidate the risk for colorectal cancer among patients with advanced adenomas in the era of colonoscopy screening.
