Limited data suggest that patients with celiac disease have increased risk for pancreatitis. To explore this possibility further, investigators in Sweden reviewed national registry data from 14,239 individuals with celiac disease and 69,381 members of the general population; study participants were matched for age, sex, calendar year, and county of residence at the time of the case’s diagnosis. All the participants had at least 1 year of follow-up data available, and none had a pancreatitis diagnosis before study entry or within the first year of follow-up.
