Narrow-band imaging (NBI) was developed by Japanese scientists in conjunction with Olympus Corporation and is now commercially available on the Olympus 180 series of endoscopes worldwide. Because NBI uses blue light rather than white light, it offers enhanced visualization of mucosal surface features.
