Adenoma detection rate (ADR) is currently the most important measure of the quality of mucosal inspection during colonoscopy. Recently, investigators assessed whether colonoscopies performed by gastroenterology fellows supervised by attending physicians resulted in improved ADRs compared with the rates of lone attending physicians.
Investigators performed a retrospective analysis of 309 colonoscopies conducted at a single U.S. institution. Of these colonoscopies, 126 were performed by a lone attending gastroenterologist and 183 by a gastroenterology fellow supervised by an attending gastroenterologist. The colonoscopists were not aware that their ADRs would be reviewed.
