Although nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prevalent worldwide, little is known about its long-term outcomes. Studies suggest that nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has a more progressive course than other subtypes of NAFLD, but these studies generally have small sample sizes and short follow-up periods.
