Although postpolypectomy surveillance guidelines for colonoscopy exist, these guidelines are based on trends in predictors of advanced adenomas at subsequent colonoscopy across a range of medium-sized studies (Lancet 2007; 370:1674). In the current study, data from eight prospective trials were pooled to analyze predictors of advanced colorectal neoplasia (advanced adenomas or cancer) after clearing colonoscopy.
The trials involved 9167 patients (age range, 22–80) with previously resected colorectal adenomas. Median follow-up was 4 years, beginning 6 months after the baseline examination.
