The literature on esophageal disease has been dominated recently by reports on eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Given this recognition, particularly in adult patients, EoE might be viewed as the esophageal disease epidemic of the decade. But does the growing rate of EoE diagnoses indicate a true rise in EoE incidence, or is it simply a result of greater recognition of the disease from increased use of endoscopy?
