Previous surveys have suggested that gastroenterologists and particularly primary care physicians and surgeons have a tendency to overuse colonoscopy for colorectal cancer surveillance, at least relative to intervals recommended in current postpolypectomy surveillance guidelines (JW Gastroenterol Feb 2 2007). To further examine this issue, investigators interviewed 3627 patients in nine U.S. communities who underwent confirmed colonoscopies in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer screening trial (Control Clin Trials 2000; 21:273S).
