Gastric cancer is part of the spectrum of malignancies in Lynch syndrome. However, the incidence of gastric cancer associated with Lynch syndrome is unknown, and guidelines for endoscopic surveillance of patients with this condition are lacking. To address these issues, investigators in the Netherlands determined the incidence of gastric cancer in Lynch syndrome mutation carriers (using data from the Dutch Hereditary Cancer registry) and compared that with the incidence of gastric cancer in the general Dutch population between 1970 and 2003.
