Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is effective for treating patients with superficial gastric neoplasms. It also enables the removal of large specimens en bloc for pathologic evaluation. However, because of the potential for post-ESD bleeding, routine second-look endoscopy following the procedure has been suggested.
To examine whether second-look endoscopy after ESD is necessary, investigators in Japan conducted a retrospective, single-center study involving 454 patients who received second-look endoscopy within 1 week of undergoing ESD to remove superficial gastric cancers or adenomas.
