No new colonoscopic imaging methods have been shown to be superior to standard methods in terms of detecting adenomas. However, several recent studies found that the use of high-definition (HD) colonoscopes resulted in extremely high adenoma detection rates (ADRs).
To compare ADRs associated with HD versus standard-definition (SD) white-light colonoscopy, investigators conducted a retrospective analysis of 2430 patients who underwent colonoscopy (1204 with HD imaging, and 1226 with SD imaging) between September 2006 and December 2007.
