Many clinicians believe that use of clopidogrel is associated with increased risk for bleeding after therapeutic endoscopic procedures, but data to evaluate this risk are lacking.
In a retrospective study conducted at a U.S. Veterans Affairs center, investigators compared risk for postpolypectomy bleeding (PPB) between two groups: 142 patients who underwent 375 colonoscopic polypectomies while receiving uninterrupted clopidogrel and 1243 controls who underwent 3226 colonoscopic polypectomies and were not receiving clopidogrel. Lengths of hospital stay and interventions were comparable between the two groups. The results were as follows:
