Infliximab is an FDA-approved treatment for ulcerative colitis (UC). To identify predictors of early response to infliximab, researchers retrospectively analyzed data from 90 patients (60% men) with UC who had been treated with the drug at an inflammatory bowel disease center in Germany. Nearly all patients had also been taking immunosuppressive therapy.
The rate of clinical response to infliximab was 64.1% at 2 weeks and 61.0% at 14 weeks; rates of remission were 52.6% and 52.5%, respectively. The cohort's mean C-reactive protein level (in mg/dL) was 1.27 at baseline, 0.68 at 2 weeks, and 0.81 at 14 weeks.
