Early diagnosis and treatment might improve survival for patients with gastric cancer, a major cause of mortality worldwide. However, accuracy in diagnosing cancerous gastric lesions is lacking.
To evaluate the ability of combined magnified endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) to diagnose malignant gastric lesions, investigators in Japan followed 111 high-risk patients with mucosal abnormalities requiring pathologic evaluation. A total of 201 lesions identified by white-light endoscopy (WLE) were graded by participating endoscopists as being either malignant or benign but with slight suspicion of malignancy.
