Studies have consistently shown better colon cleansing with split dosing of bowel preparations than with evening-before dosing. Some studies have also suggested that split dosing improves the tolerability of bowel preparation.
To investigate this possibility, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of five published randomized, controlled trials comparing evening-before 4-L dosing of polyethylene glycol (PEG) with split dosing. The split-dose regimens involved 2 L the evening before and 2 L the morning of the procedure (4 studies) or 3 L the evening before and 1 L in the morning (1 study).
