Jumbo Forceps Superior for Removing Diminutive Polyps?

Many clinicians use standard cold forceps to remove diminutive colorectal polyps. But do larger forceps provide superior eradication?

To find out, investigators conducted a prospective, randomized, controlled trial in which 140 patients with at least one sessile polyp measuring ≤6 mm underwent polypectomy by jumbo or standard, large-capacity forceps. Either instrument can be passed through the channels of standard adult or pediatric colonoscopes.

A total of 305 eligible polyps were detected. Complete visual polyp eradication with one forceps bite was achieved for 119 of 151 polyps removed with jumbo forceps and for 78 of 154 removed with standard forceps (78.8% vs. 50.7%; P<0.0001).
