MiraLAX mixed with a sport drink, particularly Gatorade, is commonly used as a bowel preparation regimen for colonoscopy in clinical practice, but it has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for this purpose. Manufacturers of other bowel preparation regimens have criticized the use of MiraLAX/Gatorade, citing case reports of hyponatremia associated with its use (J Clin Gastroenterol 2006; 40:558).
