Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is often used to resect cancers or adenomas in areas with a high prevalence of early gastric cancers. Endoscopists suggest that the presence of submucosal fibrosis makes the procedure more difficult; however, this relationship has not been formally evaluated.
