Several observational studies suggest that screening colonoscopy is effective in reducing incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC; (JW Gastroenterol Feb 4 2011 and Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol 2009; 7:770); however, more definitive evidence is needed. The current case-control study addressed whether screening colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy was associated with reduced risk for late-stage colorectal cancer.
