Camptocormia is a forward bending of the thoracolumbar spine that appears during standing and walking but abates on lying down. Whether its genesis is central, peripheral, or some interplay between the two remains unclear. General lack of response to dopaminergic treatment classifies camptocormia with other levodopa-unresponsive symptoms like axial rigidity, postural instability, and gait abnormalities, including freezing. Two recent studies analyzed data in relatively large groups of patients and, thus, provide more convincing inferences than previous, smaller studies.
