Mortality associated with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) has steadily declined during the past century. To learn more about the influence of population trends on future ICH incidence, researchers compared the incidence rates of ICH for subjects age 75 or older and for younger subjects in two population-based studies: the Oxford Community Stroke Project (1981–1984, plus 1986) and the Oxford Vascular Study (2002–2006).
From the older to the more recent study, the researchers found a significant decline in ICH incidence in patients younger than 75 and an insignificant increase in ICH incidence in those 75 or older.
