Good-quality evidence supports an association between migraine and ischemic stroke, but the details of the relation are poorly understood. In this case-control study, researchers examined the headache and medical histories of 386 women (age range, 15–49) hospitalized for a first ischemic stroke and of 614 age-matched women with no history of stroke. Based on self-report, participants were classified as having “probable” migraine (without or with visual aura) or no migraine. Stroke cases were stratified by suspected mechanism and lesion location.
