Acute treatments for migraine headache in the emergency department (ED) have been based partly on science and partly on creative dogma. In this age of evidence-based medicine, a concerted effort is being made to formally evaluate the effectiveness of these treatments. In this double-blind, randomized trial, the authors evaluated the effectiveness of a corticosteroid as an adjunct to intravenous metoclopramide for aborting migraine headache in the ED setting.
