The Dutch Meningitis Cohort has provided a database of cases of bacterial meningitis in the Netherlands that has allowed researchers to observe clinical features, complications, and outcomes and to make recommendations for management and prevention (Lancet Neurol 2006; 5:123 and 332). In the present study, the Dutch Meningitis Cohort investigators developed a nomogram to generate a bedside risk score for unfavorable outcomes in adults with bacterial meningitis. The nomogram is based on data available within 1 hour after the initial presentation from 696 patients with community-acquired bacterial meningitis.
