These authors aimed to compare disability, treatment patterns, and healthcare use in patients with episodic migraine and in those with chronic migraine. Through questionnaires, the investigators identified 24,000 people with headaches out of more than 160,000 individual respondents representative of the U.S. population. From the survey, the authors identified individuals with episodic or chronic migraine; respondents reported medications used and treatment satisfaction for the 3 months preceding each questionnaire. A total of 520 patients with chronic migraine and 9424 with episodic migraine completed annual follow-up questionnaires for 5 years.
