These researchers aimed to compare the efficacy of two different IV immunoglobulin (IVIG) doses in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) in a phase II, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, manufacturer-supported trial. The authors randomized 127 patients with RRMS of up to 5 years’ duration to receive 12 infusions of 0.2 g/kg of IVIG, 0.4 g/kg of IVIG, or placebo, administered every 4 weeks. Patients were stratified so that the three groups had similar numbers of patients with one or more gadolinium-enhancing lesions. The primary endpoint was the proportion of relapse-free patients; the secondary endpoint was the cumulative number of new active lesions on MRI.
