Neurologic Disease Attributed to Denture Cream

These authors report on four patients with myeloneuropathy, hypocupremia, and hyperzincemia. All four reported use of large amounts of denture cream. The authors analyzed zinc content in three formulations of denture cream used by the patients and showed that it ranged from 17 mg/g to 34 mg/g. Cessation of denture cream use in three patients was accompanied by decreases in serum zinc levels. Copper supplementation resulted in normalization of serum copper levels in all four patients and neurologic improvement in two.
