Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarction and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is a progressive non-amyloid cerebral arteriopathy that causes stroke and subcortical dementia. A high frequency of behavioral disturbance would be expected in CADASIL, given the prominent involvement of frontal-subcortical behavioral circuits. However, the psychiatric manifestations of this disorder have not been well characterized. Now, researchers have conducted a review of reports published in English from 1993 through 2007 that describe behavioral features in patients with CADASIL.
