In patients with isolated optic neuritis, MRI parameters predict risk for clinically definite multiple sclerosis (CDMS), but their ability to predict disability is unclear. To examine this issue, researchers assessed brain MRI measures in 100 patients within 3 months of onset of isolated optic neuritis and 3 months later. The researchers examined correlations between these measures and disability 6 years later, as measured by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS).
