Medication overuse headache (MOH; formerly referred to as rebound headache) reflects the worsening of individual headache attacks and overall progression of the headache condition that results directly from excessive use of analgesics, triptans, or ergotamine tartrate derivatives. To test the long-standing assumption that response to prophylactic treatments in patients with MOH requires initial withdrawal from the offending, overused medication, investigators undertook a 1-year, open-label, multicenter study.
