Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) has high morbidity and mortality and no proven therapy. The FAST trial was a randomized, controlled, prospective study of recombinant activated factor VIIa (rFVIIa) for acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). In an earlier (phase II) study, treatment had both beneficial hemostatic and positive clinical effects (JW Neurol May 5 2005). The larger FAST trial results were positive for hemostatic effect but negative for clinical effect (N Engl J Med 2008; 358:2127). Now, the authors have conducted a reanalysis of the FAST data to find a population who might benefit clinically from the treatment. The study was funded by the manufacturer of rFVIIa.
