This study addressed stroke outcome based on weekend or evening (off-hours) presentation compared with normal weekday (on-hours) presentation. Investigators retrospectively analyzed data on stroke patients who were treated at hospitals in eight states that were involved with Get With The Guidelines (GWTG)-Stroke, a national, voluntary hospital quality-improvement program.
Compared with on-hours presentation, off-hours ischemic stroke presentation was associated with a 0.6% greater absolute risk for death, and off-hours hemorrhagic stroke was associated with a 3.1% greater absolute risk.
